2 Years During Covid In Africa — Part One

Nine months in Morocco.

We arrived in Morocco in January of 2020. Our ‘plan’ was to travel around the country for the 3 months allotted to us on our visa, then head north to Spain and Portugal. Eventually, we would make our way across Europe and then into Asia.

That was, at least, until the pandemic hit mid-March. By then we were buried in the middle of Morocco, where we ended up being locked down in place for 2.5 months during the initial outbreak.

Many of our friends back in Canada wondered how we were doing. Many felt sorry for us. Many were unsure of how and when we would ever get back ‘home.’

The reality? We couldn’t have been happier to have been ‘stuck’ in such a safe and wonderful country, and we had no desire to go anywhere. Plus, they didn’t understand that we had left Canada on a one-way journey. After having sold all of our possessions and our house in Canada, we had no ‘home’ to return to anyways.

Of course, there was certainly fear and worry about what was to happen in the future…
