When I was going through my things in 2017 to sell all of my possessions, I came across some writing that I had done when I was 18. Much of it was through a journalism course that I was taking, and we had certain assignments and prompts on what to write about on given days.

At the time, I was attending a program called Class Afloat where I sailed on a tall ship with 51 other students for 10 months. We learned the ins and outs of sailing, ship maintenance, and what it takes to live on a large sailing vessel. We had teachers on board as well, and we took regular high school classes, and of course, we stopped at fabulous ports of call and got to experience the world in a very unique and exciting way.

My Journalism instructor was also our ship director, and he was the first teacher that I had that really encouraged me to look into a career in writing. Looking back, I always wrote funny short stories, and I always enjoyed writing letters as a kid. I was a great pen pal back in those days. Really, I have always liked to write in some way, shape, or form.
