Every Day Should Be Earth Day
Yet we somehow forget the other 364 days of the year!
I know, I know. At least our planet Earth is getting attention for one day of the year. And, yes, it IS better than nothing.
But really?
Why do we need to designate one day per year to pay attention to the issues that are plaguing our Earth? Why can’t we all just think about how we interact on our Earth every day?
I remember the first attempt at recycling that my high school took part in. It must have been about 1992. We had a HUGE box truck parked behind the school and we would dump all of our paper into it. Then, as students, we choose to go out and volunteer to separate and organize all of it. I still clearly remember that colored paper wasn’t allowed with white paper.
Of course, next came plastics, aluminum, and many other items. Over time, everything became recyclable, or at least we thought. The governments will have you thinking that every time you sort and put out your recyclables to be picked up, they are actually getting recycled.
But sadly, that is not the case.
Did you know that upwards of 70% of our plastic use is not recycled?
Where does it all go, you may ask.
