I really like your article Lauren. On my wedding day I was sitting in the car waiting for my parents to come out so it could take us to the reception. I was staring forlornly into a nearby forest and thought "This is the moment when many would run." It was definitely foreshadowing. My knees knocked through the whole ceremony and I was nervous as all get out. He was a high school sweetheart and I was marrying him for all the wrong reasons. We stayed together for 10 years, but I finally realized that nothing was going to get better and I couldn't take the emotional abuse anymore. I too hated the word divorce, but sometimes we just have to do what we have to do. Now, 9 years later, I am in the most supportive and loving relationship and we have no plans to get married. Been there, done that, still recovering. LOL.
