The Comfort In Knowing

Why are we so comfortable in what we know?

There is no doubt about it. We, humans, are inevitably afraid to get out of our comfort zone. Most of us crave predictability. We like to have our future organized. We like to know what is around the next corner.

When we don’t know these things, we feel like we have lost control. But the question is; did we ever have control, to begin with?

I believe that this, in itself, is what has caused so much upset during this whole Covid fiasco. We have realized that we can’t actually control our futures, and this has caused many of us to lash out against society.

We have become uncomfortable, and we don’t like it.

Chris and I recently took a ferry from Mwanza to Bukoba in Tanzania. We were looking forward to getting back to Bukoba because it is a place that we stayed in before.

In fact, when we arrived, we went straight back to the hotel that we stayed in the first time, and we even got the same room. Of course, we also know which restaurants we like, and what food we want to order. Because of this, we immediately fell into a blissful state of comfort.
