This is such a cool observation!

In other words, the island itself is a giant desalinization machine: Ocean water gets evaporated by the sun; the humid air hits the mountain tops, turns to mist which condenses on the trees and undergrowth. The excess water soaks into the ground, filling the aquifers, which flow out in springs into streams and rivers, fertilizing farms and plantation, and turning otherwise barren parts of the island green. Madeira, in short, is a miracle.
