I was on facetime with my parents and my Aunt last night for Thanksgiving and I was asked if I was paying attention to what is going on in Ukraine and if we are worried at all about the war being so close.

For those that don’t know, my partner and I have been in Bulgaria for over a month now and are very close, on a global scale, to Ukraine.

One could even say that it is in our backyard.

To put it into perspective for those not familiar with the area, I google mapped the route from where we are to Odesa, the closest large Ukrainian city, and it is about 700km (435 miles) away, roughly an 11-hour drive.

To put that into even more perspective it is less distance from here to Odesa, than it is from the Alberta border to Vancouver in Canada, which is roughly 870 km.

So yes, when I think about it in those terms, we are very, VERY close.
